The gentleman would like to walk to the fish stall again to eat a fish.
The caregiver/wife would be greatly helped if she could do something for herself while the volunteer is out with her husband.
The gentleman is very ill and walks with a walker.
His wish can be fulfilled with little effort.
More information about Volunteers & Dementia – Humanitas Groningen
There are over 3,000 people with dementia in the municipality of Groningen. The majority of them live independently and will eventually need help. Sometimes there is an informal caregiver nearby, sometimes not. Thanks to informal caregivers, professional help, and volunteers, people with dementia can continue living at home for a long time.
As a visiting volunteer or buddy, you can make a difference for people with dementia and their caregivers.
What it entails
A visit from a volunteer often works both ways: the person with dementia receives attention, and the caregiver gets the opportunity to catch their breath. The volunteer offers companionship and a listening ear, and engages in activities together, such as playing a game or going for a walk.
