Participants at the Language House often struggle with the Dutch language, arithmetic, or digital skills. You will help them with this. Working with eager-to-learn adults is fun and rewarding! You are incredibly important to others in improving their language skills, and thereby also promote the participant's self-reliance and self-confidence.
Together with the participant paired with you, you agree on when to meet, so you determine the time yourself.
Beforehand, you will receive training on how to interact with the target group and how to approach the coaching. During the guidance, you can always turn to your Language House Coordinator.
Tasks and duties
- You independently guide someone who has difficulty with the Dutch language, in a Language House.
- Prior to starting the tutoring, you will receive an interesting training session consisting of four half-days. During the training, the following topics will be covered: target group and background, tutoring in speaking skills, tutoring in reading, and tutoring in writing.
- Teaching materials are available at the Language House.
- You will receive guidance from a Language House Coordinator.
- If you identify bottlenecks in the participant's trajectory, report this proactively to your Language House coordinator.
- The Korrewegwijk Language House is located in the Floreshuis, Floresplein 19, 9715HH Groningen.
Skills and qualities
We are looking for volunteers who are proficient in the Dutch language and enjoy working with (non-native speaking) adults.
A language volunteer:
- Has patience
- Is interested in other people and cultures.
- Enjoys working with the Dutch language and culture.
- Can enthusiastically motivate others to learn the language and participate.
- Can improvise.
- Is open to feedback.
- Can work independently.
- Is open to a joke.
