About Buro Mix
Buro Mix is a platform for social art and social design in Groningen.
We use art and design as a means for societal change. In co-creation with communities, artists, and organizations, we work on urgent themes such as inequality, mental health, and systemic failure. Our projects make the invisible visible, strengthen engagement, and offer space for new perspectives. We believe that change begins with listening, imagining, and building alternatives together. Through long-term relationships and local involvement, we create meaningful processes that contribute to a just, inclusive society. Buro Mix works in a process-oriented manner, with attention to context, and connects worlds that do not naturally touch: culture, care, policy, and community.
Buro Mix organizes social-artistic projects in which communities, artists, and designers collaborate on societal issues.
Our core activities consist of co-creative trajectories (Blikopener LABS), a network of key figures (Club Mix), and an annual festival (Blikopener Showcase). In the LABS, we work around themes such as poverty, mental health, and systemic failure. Club Mix is a diverse group of engaged residents who are trained in social-artistic methods and actively contribute to participation projects. During the Showcase, we present the results and encourage knowledge sharing between makers, the public, and professionals. The process is central to all our activities: we build trust, give space to stories, and imagine alternative futures. Additionally, we guide organizations in the social domain, culture, and policy in engaging target groups through art and design.
