About Centraal Orgaan opvang Asielzoekers
The COA offers asylum seekers livable and safe accommodation and guides them towards a future in the Netherlands or abroad.
We provide safe and dignified accommodation and stand alongside the resident. We are positive, involved, social, and clear. Our guidance contributes to our residents taking responsibility, becoming more self-reliant, and developing themselves. In this way, they are better prepared for their future in the Netherlands or abroad.
In Groningen, there are several COA reception locations, namely Canadalaan, Eemsgolaan, Sint Petersburgweg, and Europaweg. Our target group consists of a mixed group of residents of various nationalities, ages, family compositions, and in different stages of the procedure.
Most reception locations have a mix of single residents and families with children of all different ages. In addition, there are two groups of unaccompanied minor refugees being accommodated in Groningen.
Besides providing shelter, we try to guide residents towards as independent a life as possible in the Netherlands. This is done through conversations and by providing information and training about life in the Netherlands.
Additionally, we regularly offer activities for residents, try to encourage them to participate, and offer language lessons. In this way, we hope to strengthen the skills they need to maintain control over their own lives.
