Do you want to be there for others during a time of grief and loss? Then there might just be a humanist funeral speaker inside you.
The greatest reward is the satisfaction this work provides, but we also offer a volunteer allowance. As a humanist speaker at funerals, you are there for others during a moment of farewell and mourning. You work based on humanist values and contribute to a farewell that aligns with what the deceased considered important in life. This gives the farewell extra meaning.
Tasks and duties
At one of the most difficult moments in their lives, you are there for the bereaved. As a humanist speaker at funerals, you work with them to shape a speech that does justice to the life and memory of the deceased. That is your core task. Additionally, you may be asked to contribute ideas regarding the music selection or the composition of the funeral service script. In this way, you shape the funeral ceremony together with the bereaved and the funeral director. You offer a listening ear, deliver a speech centering on the life story, and with your help, you ensure a personal and dignified farewell together.
You are also there for people who need help recording their life story. This activity can assist in the process of preparing for impending death. It may also be intended to have the life story used during the future funeral.
Skills and qualities
You can recognize a humanist speaker at funerals by:

- Able to express oneself well in spoken and written form.

- To be creative and inspiring.
