As a reception volunteer, you make people feel welcome, listen to their story, try to clarify their question, and provide information.
Dozens of people visit the Humanitas building on Akerkhof daily, and in addition, many people seek contact by phone or email. A whole world of people and issues passes by.
For example, an informal caregiver for whom the care is becoming too much; someone who would like some help learning Dutch; someone who wants a buddy because they have few social contacts after a difficult period; a student who would like to do an internship; a referrer who wants some information about the Support in Loss project.
As a reception volunteer at our MIP (Reporting and Information Point), you are the first point of contact. You make people feel welcome, listen to their story, try to clarify their question, and provide information. Coffee, tea (and usually) a cookie are always ready.
What are you going to do?
- You work in our cozy building in the heart of the city center , and you are an important part of the warm welcome we want to offer everyone.
- During the first period, you will shadow and the other volunteers will train you, so that you quickly feel at home in the team.
- Together with a colleague, you are the first point of contact for visitors, callers, texters, and emailers.
- You take the time to listen to their story and try to clarify the request for help.
- You provide information about the activities of Humanitas Groningen.
- You also perform light administrative tasks such as processing applications in the Humanitas Registration System (HRS) and registrations for meetings.
- We have our joint meeting once every six weeks.
What we ask
- You are flexibly available to fill in, so there is no fixed time slot (this is, of course, always discussed). If you enjoy it, you can also combine this with another volunteer role that offers more stability.
- You want to commit to our friendly and dedicated team for the long term.
- You recognize yourself in the following characteristics: stable, patient , and knowledgeable about people. You are also good at asking questions , listening , and not quick to judge.
- Working with Microsoft Outlook is no problem for you, you have basic skills in Word and Excel and want to learn how to work in the Humanitas Registration System. You are also good at searching the internet. Working digitally has become an important component of our work.
Our team is friendly, and I have a lot of contact with people and colleagues. It is useful work, and it allows me to contribute to developments in society. That is the beauty of our work.
