Wanted: a language buddy for an Arabic-speaking man staying at Mesdag in Zuidlaren who would like to speak better Dutch.
We are looking for a language buddy for an Arabic-speaking man residing at the Forensic Psychiatric Ward (FPA) of Mesdag in Zuidlaren. He speaks and understands a little Dutch and would like to learn to speak it better. He has been granted a deferral of his civic integration obligation, but will eventually have to complete it as well. At the FPA of Mesdag in Zuidlaren, patients work on recovery and return to society.
You meet once every two or three weeks at the FPA of Mesdag in Zuidlaren; this will usually last an hour or a maximum of two hours. Together, you work on the Dutch language in an informal way. The focus will be primarily on speaking Dutch, but you can also practice listening, reading, or writing.
As a volunteer buddy at Mesdag, you help make the step back into society easier. Simply by being there and offering a listening ear. For this man, practicing the Dutch language is very important in order to eventually be able to take steps in Dutch society. To be able to integrate well later on, it helps him to engage with the language informally.
Skills and qualities
We are looking for someone who has an affinity with the target group of non-native speakers and the Dutch language, but also with the target group of Mesdag and reintegration into society after TBS. You are self-assured, balanced, and independent. Buddies can turn to the project's (volunteer) coordinators with questions regarding support, training, and guidance.
