About Oma's Soep
Oma’s Soep is a social enterprise (BV and Foundation) that uses the proceeds from sold products to combat loneliness among the elderly by bringing young and old together and organizing fun activities. Oma’s Soep currently does this in 12 different cities, including Groningen. Here, a group of 7 students and I are responsible for organizing these activities this year (from September through June).
For years, we have been organizing Cooking Days at local community centers and day care facilities, and since the pandemic, we have also been making home visits (and fresh soups) to the elderly. We receive applications from elderly people from various sources. We do this primarily in collaboration with local parties, including general practitioners, home care organizations, physiotherapists, and pharmacies. In this way, we uniquely reach the loneliest elderly who are most isolated from society. This not only provides a pleasant moment of contact with the elderly, but lifelong friendships are also formed here.
