Interesting or nice about this vacancy

One of the oldest Red Cross services offered worldwide is Restoring Family Links (RFL). RFL falls under the Migration and Restoring Family Links department and is managed from the Association Office in The Hague. There are a total of six volunteer teams active nationwide: in Groningen, Arnhem, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven. For our team in Groningen, we are looking for a team leader who would like to contribute to this special Red Cross service. The team in Groningen operates on Mondays.

The Red Cross helps search for missing family members and restore contact. With the Red Cross's international network, we can search worldwide, situation permitting. Would you like to contribute to finding and reconnecting family? Then this position at Restoring Family Links (RFL) might be for you!

As an RFL volunteer, you and a fellow RFL volunteer receive a person seeking assistance at a Red Cross office. These conversations are usually conducted via an interpreter. During these conversations, you gather information for a potential search. You also inform the person seeking assistance about the possibilities and limitations of RFL services. You offer a listening ear and encourage those seeking assistance to continue searching themselves using search tips. Together with your fellow volunteer on the case file, you are responsible for the administration of search requests in the CRM registration system. You maintain contact with those seeking assistance, as well as with the professionals in the Migration and Restoring Family Links department, regarding the progress of a request. You ensure that the (interim) results of the request are reported back.

Tasks and duties

As an RFL team leader, together with your volunteer team, you ensure that people seeking help within your region receive proper assistance. You are the one who coordinates the activities and ensures that everything runs smoothly. Your duties include, among others:

  • Guiding and directing 6 – 10 volunteers in the execution of the RFL activities.
  • (Partially) responsible for planning.
  • Regularly joining conversations with clients (with or without an interpreter).
  • Volunteers are evaluated and assessed for suitability based on pre-established criteria.
  • Ensuring all the prerequisites for your team.
  • Participate in RFL training and meetings.

Skills and qualities

The Dutch Red Cross is looking for a team leader who wants to get the best out of the regional team and enjoys contributing ideas for quality improvement. We are looking for someone with experience in a leadership position who is energized by motivating and inspiring their team members.

As a team leader:

  • You are a source of information, but certainly also a listening ear for your team.
  • Do you have good communication skills? You can liaise between our association office, the other volunteers, and the person requesting assistance to handle the request as effectively as possible.
  • Do you have strong administrative skills: you are proficient with a computer, the Microsoft Office 365 suite, and the internet, and you are preferably familiar with a digital contact registration system.
  • Are you willing to travel (mainly within the region) and available for at least one year for approximately 12 hours a week, primarily on Mondays?
  • Do you have a good command of spoken and written Dutch and English? Knowledge of multiple languages is a plus.
  • Do you have an affinity for people with diverse backgrounds and are you good at setting boundaries?

Additional information

What do we offer?

  • Meaningful, educational, and interesting volunteer work.
  • Training to perform the work properly and unlimited access to an online e-learning platform.
  • A driven team of volunteers and professionals to work with.
  • A pleasant working environment with an international character.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses on a declaration basis if necessary.
  • A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required for this position. This is free of charge for Red Cross volunteers.
