We want to connect the people of Groningen through the power of imagination. We want to evoke joy, pride, emotion, wonder, and togetherness, and give the people of Groningen the feeling that they are all Groningers, regardless of their background or abilities. We offer them an unforgettable experience, one that goes beyond that single evening. An experience they can look forward to year after year, a parade that more and more people want to join. A parade based on equality. For everyone.
From 2025 onwards, we will organize the Sunnemeerten Parade annually in November, around St. Martin's Day. A parade of light sculptures made by residents of Groningen from rice paper and willow branches. They do this in various workshops in Groningen, for which they can sign up. In addition, we will work with groups that do not participate as naturally; we approach them very specifically. Schools (primary and secondary) also participate in the parade with their own light objects. A parade is not a parade without music, dance, and performance, so we also involve local amateur artists. The parade will make its way through the center of Groningen on November 8, 2025.
