We offer a work environment with plenty of variety and great colleagues. Additionally, as a volunteer UMCG employee, you receive reimbursement for travel expenses, benefits/discounts on staff association membership, a range of courses, a volunteer appreciation evening, and of course, a Christmas hamper.
Tasks and duties
The University Center for Psychiatry (UCP) has a number of clinical wards where patients suffering from psychiatric problems stay. Some patients also stay at the UCP during the weekend.
There are no treatment options available for patients on weekends. Furthermore, not all patients receive daily visitors. Therefore, there is a need for an accessible walk-in center offering activities aimed at leisure time and social interaction.
As a volunteer at the UCP, you offer patients a welcome distraction. You initiate and supervise accessible activities to promote contact, relaxation, and distraction, such as crafting, baking, taking walks, talking, and drinking coffee or tea. You always work together with another volunteer.
Skills and qualities
If you are creative, have a heart for healthcare, and enjoy interacting with people, then we are looking for you!
- You recognize yourself as an open, enthusiastic, and hospitable person, and you have a professional appearance.
- You have a sense of responsibility and can react calmly and act tactfully in difficult situations.
- You are empathetic and enjoy offering a listening ear.
- You are creative and have strong communication skills.
- You preferably have experience working with psychiatric patients.
- You have a good command of the Dutch language.
- You wish to commit to us as a volunteer for the long term.
- You are available at least one Saturday per month from 13:30 to 16:30.
- Preferably, you have experience in and an affinity with healthcare.
