By reading, playing games, and talking together, you help reduce children's language delays in a playful, relaxed way and increase their future opportunities.
Would you like to help a child enjoy language and reading more? Do you want to make a difference in a child's life?
What are you going to do?
As a reading volunteer, you visit a family's home for an hour a week. You help the child or children of primary school age with their language development through play and introduce them to the joy of reading. You can do this by reading aloud, talking about the story and their own experiences, and playing games.
The parents are present during the reading hour, and you involve them as much as possible.
How to get started
One of the Reading Coordinators will find a suitable family for you that matches your preferences. When you go to meet the family, the coordinator will accompany you. This person is also your contact person whom you can always turn to. There is an introductory meeting and optional theme meetings for knowledge sharing and exchange.
Our reading volunteers are active throughout the city. You indicate yourself in which neighborhoods you would like to read and which age group you prefer.
What do we ask?
We ask for availability for at least six months, because we want the child to feel that it is worthwhile.
