De Spilsluizen is the day shelter for the homeless in the City of Groningen. It was formed from a merger of the Open Hof day shelter and the Kostersgang day shelter.
Homeless people can visit the day shelter for a cup of coffee or tea, a sandwich, or a bowl of soup. But also to receive their mail, for clean clothes (if necessary and available), and above all for some warmth and attention. They are allowed to be who they are.
The shelter is largely run by volunteers, supplemented by professionals who dedicate themselves to more specialized tasks.
