Do you enjoy caring for people who are temporarily unable to rely on their informal caregiver?
Then you can make a difference at De Opstap! A homey and cozy guesthouse in Groningen for 5 guests.
If (physical) care is required, the guest arranges home care; therefore, you do not need to perform nursing or caregiving duties.
De Opstap welcomes guests who:
- Temporarily being unable to rely on an informal caregiver, such as a partner or family member, because they need a break or want to get away for a while.
- Wanting to go home after an operation but unable to rely (sufficiently) on their partner, family, neighbors, or for another reason.
Tasks and duties
Together with other volunteers, you ensure that guests feel welcome and at home in De Opstap.
- Offering a listening ear.
- Have a chat.
- Preparing meals or cooking together with a guest.
- Play a game together or go grocery shopping.
- Taking care of a tidy and clean house. In short, basically everything you do at home. Only now you are doing it for someone else, and really... you get so much in return!
Skills and qualities
You don't need a diploma, but you do:
- The ability to treat people well and respectfully; both guests and fellow volunteers.
- Ensuring a good atmosphere in the house (for the guest and for yourself).
- Hospitable and an open attitude.
Additional information
De Opstap is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
You can schedule yourself in for at least half a day per week (more is of course allowed).
A shift usually lasts 4 to 5 hours.
