Do you enjoy helping others and are you handy with a sewing machine and needle and thread? Or would you like to learn? Come and volunteer at the Repair Café Rivierenbuurt!
Tasks and duties
The Repair Café Rivierenbuurt is open every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm and, starting in February, at our new location in the Talmahuis. Everyone is welcome at the Repair Café, where we look together—and see if we can—help visitors repair their clothing and appliances while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. We are getting busier and are looking for a second person to join us for the clothing.
Skills and qualities
- Able to handle the sewing machine and needle and thread, or willing to learn.
- Dealing with guests, assessing and explaining what you are doing, because they stay with you until you are finished.
Additional information
We consist of a team of 8 with rotating attendance. There is currently one person for textiles, and we would like to expand this to two. Sewing machines and supplies are available. As a Repair Café, we operate on a donation basis to be accessible to everyone, and we do so from a sustainability perspective.
We also invite young people/students etc. who are eager to learn and available for at least six months to apply.

We willen reparatiekennis behouden en verspreiden, en de sociale cohesie bevorderen door buurtgenoten met heel verschillende achtergronden en drijfveren met elkaar in contact te brengen in het kader van inspirerende en laagdrempelige bijeenkomsten. Het RepairCafé is geen gratis reparatiewerkplaats maar een ontmoetingsplaats in de buurt, waar het gaat om sámen repareren, kennisoverdracht en sociaal contact. Het repareren gebeurt tíjdens de RepairCafé-bijeenkomst, in aanwezigheid van en zo mogelijk met medewerking van de eigenaar van het kapotte voorwerp. Kapotte spullen worden dus niet bij het Repair Café afgegeven en later weer opgehaald.
