Following a suspected criminal offense, (traffic) accident, calamity, or disaster, a wide range of emotions come into play, and victims and surviving relatives have to deal with various agencies. Within the Active Approach team, volunteers play a very important role because they establish the initial telephone contact with the victims.

Tasks and duties
After a traumatic event, a wide range of emotions come into play, and victims and surviving relatives have to deal with various agencies. On behalf of Slachtofferhulp Nederland, you establish the initial telephone contact with victims. You offer a listening ear and discuss what help is needed. It may be that a telephone conversation with you is sufficient. If necessary, you refer them for further assistance.
Skills and qualities
Do you have a natural interest in your fellow man and are you a good listener? If you recognize yourself in the qualities below, then we are looking for you!
- You are available for at least 4 to 6 hours per week.
- Thanks to your empathy, people feel seen and heard.
- You are stress-resistant, see what is needed, and have a good command of the Dutch language.
- You possess digital skills; you can work with a computer and are willing to learn how to work with a new program.

What do we offer you?
Challenging, responsible, and varied work of social importance within a committed organization. You will receive basic training in communication techniques and Dutch law (legal procedures and victims' rights) and learn how people can react to traumatic events. During your work, we continuously offer follow-up training where you can learn more about topics such as traffic and/or providing assistance to children. You will join an enthusiastic and committed team of volunteers. Your point of contact and sparring partner is your team leader.
