Interesting or nice about this vacancy

The De Blije Bodem Foundation has an ambitious mission: to transform a depleted piece of land into a flourishing, green oasis full of life, both above ground and in the soil. This place offers space for relaxation, meeting, fun, and education. While we help restore the soil and let it flourish, our garden is open to everyone.

Visitors can unwind, and participants in our pick-your-own garden enjoy healthy, pesticide-free vegetables, fruit, and herbs from our own soil. Stichting De Blije Bodem is committed to serving as an inspiring example of nature-inclusive, small-scale community agriculture. By working together, we are building a future in which people and nature reinforce each other.

Tasks and duties

What does Stichting De Blije Bodem do? The daily maintenance of the garden and cultivation are carried out by two experienced gardeners. The foundation focuses on: The physical and organizational structure of the garden. Keeping the project financially healthy. Building and connecting an engaged community of volunteers, harvest participants, and visitors. Developing creative and educational ways to promote our project and our vision.

Skills and qualities

The foundation was established to give the project to the community and to ensure it can continue to exist independently of the gardeners. Sustainability and connection in the broadest sense are current topics within the foundation. Do you have a warm (green) heart for our approach and goals, and would you like to contribute yourself? We are looking for a secretary to support the foundation! The specifics of the position are open for discussion but essentially involve taking minutes of meetings and contributing ideas and making decisions regarding the further development and growth of the garden.

As the board, we meet with the gardeners once a month at an agreed time. We discuss how things are going and make plans for further growth. By mutual agreement, these meetings are also regularly opened to volunteers and participants to allow for informal consultation. Would you be interested in getting acquainted? Then email a letter with your motivation and CV to marijke@deblijebodem.nl to schedule an introductory meeting.

About Stichting De Blije Bodem

Stichting De Blije Bodem is a regenerative self-harvest garden in Groningen. A 4,500m² food garden for local residents featuring pesticide-free fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We believe that local and as healthy as possible food should be available to everyone. Our gardener grows all the vegetables, and our participants then harvest what they need themselves. We work with a solidarity payment system; anyone can harvest fresh vegetables regardless of their budget. We aim to provide healthy food to up to 200 people. We pay close attention to supporting and maximizing biodiversity; we are turning a depleted piece of land into a green oasis in the city. The garden is fully open to the public; everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this beautiful place. Education is an important part; we are happy to share knowledge and hope to inspire new generations, from vegetable cultivation to restoring complete ecosystems and reconnecting with oneself, nature, and others.
