Interesting or nice about this vacancy
You represent the interests of a client who is unable to do so themselves or has no one in their network to represent them. It is a responsible volunteer role in which you build a relationship of trust with the client and advocate for their interests. You will receive a basic Mentorship course, support, and training. A mentor fulfills a responsible, meaningful, and enjoyable role for vulnerable people in our society.
Tasks and duties
Mentorship is a statutory measure for people who are partially or no longer able to look after their own personal interests. This measure can be granted for various reasons, for example in the case of an intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, dementia, or mental health issues.
Stichting Mentorschap Noord is seeking volunteers in the province of Groningen who wish to act as mentors for people who are unable to look after their own interests regarding welfare and care. In addition to a mentor, the client often also has a legal administrator, who manages the finances.
The duties of a mentor are:
- Visit the client once or twice a month.
- Maintain a logbook of contacts regarding the client.
- To be the point of contact for care and assistance.
- Keeping an eye on the client's interests.
- Representing the client in conversations.
- Consulting with the administrator, advising and making decisions, and writing an annual report for the court.
- The time investment is approximately 10 hours per month.
Skills and qualities
We are looking for volunteers who possess good social and communication skills. Additionally, you have an affinity with the target group, possess some life experience, and have knowledge of the social services landscape. You are respectful towards the client and know how to handle confidential information. Furthermore, you show initiative, are decisive and capable of taking action, can set boundaries, and work well with others. You have a good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written, and can provide a Certificate of Conduct (VOG).
Additional information
The match between mentor and client is carefully established under the guidance of coordinators.
Following the official guardianship ruling by the District Court, issued by the sub-district court judge, you are mandated by St. Mentorschap Noord (Legal Entity) as a guardian, thereby acting as the client's legal representative regarding his or her care, nursing, treatment, or support. Guardians receive reimbursement for travel expenses.
