Interesting or nice about this vacancy

Do you have an affinity with autism (ASD) and young adults? Would you find it valuable to help lead a group where there is room for recognition, exchange, and connection?

Then we at Sedna Herstelacademie offer a wonderful volunteer position for you.

You contribute to a place where young adults with autism can be themselves, share their concerns and questions, and feel less alone. The group is recovery-oriented, and we work on a basis of equality: everyone is allowed to be themselves and contribute, including you as a support worker.

As a co-facilitator, you work alongside an experienced facilitator. You are not only a facilitator but – if you wish – also a participant. There is space to share from your own experience, connect, and explore together what is supportive for the group.

It is a role in which you:

  • have meaningful contact
  • Contributes to a safe and open atmosphere
  • Shapes the meetings together with the group
  • You can also grow and learn on your own

Tasks and duties

  • Facilitating group meetings together with an experienced facilitator
  • Creating a safe, calm, and open atmosphere
  • Supporting group discussions (listening, giving space, sometimes offering direction)
  • Doing activities together, such as games or thematic exchange
  • Aligning with the needs of the group (we follow, we do not steer)
  • If appropriate: sharing personal experiences and insights regarding autism
  • Optional: welcome new participants or fulfill a buddy role

Skills and qualities

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an affinity with autism / ASD (personally or professionally)
  • Quiet, patient and reliable is
  • Can listen well and leave space
  • Communicates carefully and clearly
  • Is aware of equality in contact (recovery-oriented work)
  • Enjoys working together and coordinating with each other, as a team of supervisors and the organization
  • Personal experience with autism and willingness to (partially) identify with this (where applicable)
  • The ability to facilitate a group discussion / dialogue
  • Facilitating a group discussion (providing gentle direction when necessary)
  • Ability to think proactively in a solution-oriented manner

Additional information

  • The group is as self-organizing as possible: we align with what is going on.
  • You are not alone; you provide guidance together with an experienced supervisor.
  • There is room to shape the role in your own way, fitting who you are.
  • In addition to guidance, it is possible to contribute ideas on growing and increasing the visibility of the group (optional; aspects of organization, recruitment, promotion, networking, etc.).
