Interesting or nice about this vacancy
We have developed the “spiekerboks” from our own recycled denim fabric, made of 100% cotton. And soon you can contribute to this as well. The work is practical, educational, and contributes directly to the reuse of textiles and a circular textile chain, as the mountain of clothing waste is growing ever larger. You will receive a volunteer allowance for performing the work.
Tasks and duties
For a circular textile project at Groningen Werkt Circulair, we are looking for volunteers who want to work at a small-scale production site in the Textielhub, where we sort textiles for recycling. You will work together with a small team, including volunteers.
You perform the following tasks:
- Sort clothing and other textiles by composition and material.
- Preparing textiles for further processing/recycling: cutting fabrics, removing buttons, zippers, and collars
Volunteers receive guidance and learn step-by-step how to recognize and assess textiles. In this way, you are trained to become a true textile expert, and you receive a certificate upon completion of the training.
Skills and qualities
We are looking for hard workers who enjoy physical work. You will spend a lot of time standing and assist with sorting and processing textiles. An affinity for textiles and recycling, or experience in a textile-related work environment, is a plus.
