Interesting or nice about this vacancy

Knowledge Centre WAARD is looking for someone willing to share their experiences during citizenship lessons to create connection and combat discrimination. Have you ever experienced discrimination or exclusion, and are you comfortable sharing your experiences with a group? Are you socially inclined and able to connect easily? Do you appreciate a critical question from time to time? Then you are the volunteer we are looking for!

Knowledge Centre WAARD is part of the National Discrimination Reporting Centre Groningen. You can raise the alarm here if you are treated unfairly because of, for example, your age, origin, religion, or sexuality. We offer a listening ear and legal support, but to prevent discrimination, we also provide information sessions at schools and to organizations. The goal of these sessions is to create connection, debunk prejudices, and in this way combat discrimination.

Tasks and duties

Volunteering at WAARD involves accompanying one of our presenters to a school or organization as an experience sharer. Under the guidance of the presenter, the participants ask you personal questions.

  • You share your experiences with participants and have valuable conversations with them.
  • Diversity becomes visible and open for discussion.
  • Participants get the chance to test and debunk their prejudices.
  • Special encounters full of connection emerge, through which discrimination can be prevented in the future.

Skills and qualities

What do we ask?

  • You are socially inclined and self-confident: you dare to open up to a group of participants and do not shy away from (respectful) critical questions.
  • You want to contribute to an equal society without discrimination.
  • You can conduct conversations independently with participants who usually only speak Dutch.
  • You are able to get to the information location by your own transport or public transport.

What do we offer?

  • A safe place to talk about prejudice and discrimination; you are always together with one of our educators, and we ensure (social) safety within the group.
  • A diverse network of colleagues, volunteers, and other organizations that also value diversity, equality, and inclusion.
  • A fee of €22.50 per working day and reimbursement of travel expenses when a workshop is outside your place of residence.
  • An annual volunteer meeting and the opportunity to learn more about DGI.

Additional information

Would you be interested in becoming an experience sharer, or do you have any questions? Send an email with the subject 'Ervaringsdeler'. You can also call us at 050-205 33 23.

Part of the application process is an introductory meeting with the WAARD advisors and shadowing another WAARD Experience Sharer.
