Thanks to a global network of YFU organizations, more than 260,000 exchange students and host families in some 50 countries have already had the opportunity to experience another culture from the inside. As a result, they also view their own culture with different eyes.
Tasks and duties
Make the world your home: become a host family for a foreign student! Every year, dozens of foreign students come to the Netherlands to experience our family life, language, and culture. They attend a regular secondary school for a school year or semester.
YFU is seeking enthusiastic host families for these students who are willing to open their homes and hearts. At the same time, your family will get to know the culture of your host child; a foreign perspective will make you look at your own customs differently. Especially for families with young children, an older host brother or sister from another country is a very special experience. Above all, a lifelong friendship is born in this way.
Skills and qualities
- You would like to share your life and culture with someone else.
- The guest child is not a visitor, but participates in daily family life.
- We require room and board from you; the student is personally responsible for all personal expenses, such as pocket money, clothing, and school fees.
- Where you live or how much space is available is of less importance.
- As one of our host mothers says: if you have room in your heart, you will always find space in your home!
Additional information
Who are our students? The students are between 15 and 18 years old and have diverse cultural backgrounds. Based on interests, hobbies, and character, a host family selects the child who best fits the family situation.
Who are our host families? Our host families are diverse; we exclude no one in advance. You are a (single-parent) family (with or without children). Additionally, you are interested in other cultures and can motivate young people.
