Interesting or nice about this vacancy
You will come into contact with a relatively unknown but spectacular sport in the Netherlands. Together with your 'colleagues', you will manage matches between teams sometimes as strong as 40 people. Fortunately, there are never more than 11 per team on the field at any one time. Additionally, you will develop your skills through free courses provided by the AFBN. Sports Club Groningen Giants pays for the purchase of necessary clothing and accessories. In short: a fun volunteer job with a volunteer allowance and a unique opportunity to train yourself (for free) in a new sport!
Tasks and duties
As an umpire for the American Football Association of the Netherlands (AFBN), you travel throughout the country on Saturdays or Sundays to (eventually) officiate games at the Eredivisie and First Division levels together with four other colleagues. This brings you into contact with other umpires and a new, exciting, and complex sport.
There is a volunteer allowance for every match refereed.
Prior knowledge of American Football is not necessary! The AFBN organizes annual referee courses. Additionally, in consultation with the Groningen Giants sports club, we will cover the costs of all your refereeing equipment!
Skills and qualities
- You can work together in a team of 4 to 5 people.
- You love a (new) challenge.
