Interesting or nice about this vacancy

  • You get to know other people with autism well and also learn a lot yourself about what autism concretely entails.
  • You contribute to better knowledge about autism in adults, from the perspective of people with autism themselves.
  • You will become part of a team of more than 45 autistic adults. This way, you will get to know new people with autism. Our working methods are tailored to autistic characteristics.
  • You will be clearly told what is expected of you. We work with written job descriptions and guidelines.
  • You can do this volunteer work from home, from anywhere in the Netherlands or Belgium. All contact takes place via email, WhatsApp, and Teams.

Tasks and duties

We are looking for a volunteer with autism who wants to lead an online discussion group for women over 40 starting in the autumn of 2026.

Starting in September or October 2026, you will lead a 75-minute online discussion group once every two weeks or once a month (whichever suits you best). There will be a total of 9 meetings. There is a maximum of 8 participants.

The discussion group is themed 'Explore Your Autism' and is specifically for women over 40. In this group, you explore together with the participants what autism concretely means to them. Participants may have recently received an autism diagnosis, or may be reflecting on the diagnosis again and have questions. For each meeting, there is a guide providing background on the theme being discussed. Themes covered include, for example, late diagnosis, health, self-care & menopause, caregiving, relationships, partner, children and friendships, and work & retirement.

The discussion group is informal in nature and is not counseling or therapy. The goal of the meetings is to exchange experiences and learn from each other. You lead the group alone, but for the first meeting, you do so together with the coordinator. You can always turn to the coordinator and the board with any questions.

What are the tasks?

  • For the first meeting, schedule a short introductory meeting (approximately 15 minutes) via Teams with each individual participant who signs up.
  • You prepare the content for each meeting. You do this based on a script.
  • During the meeting, you lead the conversation and ensure that everyone is heard.
  • For each meeting, you send an invitation to the participants by email containing background information on the theme from the manual.
  • After each meeting, send them a short summary of what you discussed.

Skills and qualities

  • You have had an autism diagnosis for at least a year and have been able to come to terms with it.
  • You are willing to delve into the background of the autism diagnosis.
  • You communicate well, listen, and are reliable.
  • You have a properly working microphone, webcam, and internet connection.
  • You are familiar with Teams or are willing to learn how to work with it.

Additional information

Are you interested? Then please contact Annelies. She will contact you within 3 days (excluding holidays). She will then schedule an appointment with you for a meeting via Teams. You will have a meeting with Annelies and the coordinator of the relevant working group.
