Interesting or nice about this vacancy
You will be working with an interesting target group for whom you can make a significant difference. For sex offenders, it is incredibly motivating that you volunteer to help them reintegrate into society in a positive way. Additionally, you will have plenty of contact with other volunteers, receive volunteer training upon arrival, attend quarterly themed meetings with other volunteers, and, of course, get-togethers at Christmas!
Tasks and duties
- Providing practical support and maintaining social contact with sex offenders during their reintegration into society. In practical terms, this can involve regularly having a cup of coffee and a good conversation with the person, together with three other volunteers, or accompanying them to apply for benefits if the person finds it difficult to do so themselves. Alternatively, you can decide to go cycling, walking, or participate in other activities that the sex offender and the volunteers enjoy.
- Identify signs of recidivism risk and discuss them with the offender and the circle coordinator.
- Collaborate within the circle with other involved parties such as family, probation services, the community police officer, the therapist, and other professionals who may be involved with a sex offender.
Skills and qualities
As a volunteer, you do not need to have a specific educational background.
Everyone is welcome.
Because you will be working with other volunteers, it is important that you are able to collaborate with others, possess communication skills, and maintain a respectful, non-judgmental attitude.
Additional information
We start with an introductory meeting where you can ask your questions and we can explain what the project entails.
If you are still enthusiastic afterwards, you will attend a two-day volunteer training course. During this training, we provide information about the project, but we also invite a therapist to talk about the target group. Additionally, an experienced volunteer will visit to explain what it is like to be a COSA volunteer. If you actually become a COSA volunteer, you will receive support through coaching from a circle coordinator and quarterly thematic meetings.
