If someone needs a listening ear, you are there. Every conversation is different. And that is precisely what makes this work special.
Really listen. Really make a difference.
Offering a listening ear to someone who needs it at that moment. Sometimes a conversation is short and routine, sometimes it is about something that is deeply on someone's mind. No conversation is the same.
The work is intensive, but above all valuable and educational. You develop your listening and conversational skills and make a real difference for others.
Before you start working independently, you will complete thorough training lasting approximately 8 weeks. The training consists of online modules and practical sessions where you will primarily practice conversations. You will receive guidance afterwards as well, and continue to develop your skills.
Tasks and duties
The Listening Line is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a volunteer, you offer people a confidential conversation and listen without judgment to what is on their minds.
You work a shift for an average of 4 hours per week . You schedule the shifts yourself in consultation. You work a night shift once a month . Additionally, there are opportunities to listen via chat.
You work from home with a phone that you receive on loan for this purpose.
This is what we ask of you
You have a genuine interest in others, are a good listener, and are open to different stories and perspectives. You do not judge and can give space to what someone else has to say.
This work requires space in your head, heart, and schedule. We are therefore looking for people who want to commit to the Listening Line for the long term.
