Looking for a calm buddy with a positive attitude to coach an insecure person.
The gentleman has become insecure following a brain hemorrhage. Activities he previously enjoyed have become difficult. He is looking for a buddy willing to join him to see if he can still manage and enjoys: walking, cycling, playing billiards, shuffleboard, attending a discussion group or cooking club, or teaching language classes. These are all outdoor activities he was previously able to do and enjoyed.
An additional goal is to ensure that the caregiver/spouse can do something for themselves with peace of mind.
If only walking and having a nice chat works out, that's fine too.
More information about Volunteers & Dementia – Humanitas Groningen
There are over 3,000 people with dementia in the municipality of Groningen. The majority of them live independently and will eventually need help. Sometimes there is an informal caregiver nearby, sometimes not. Thanks to informal caregivers, professional help, and volunteers, people with dementia can continue living at home for a long time.
As a visiting volunteer or buddy, you can make a difference for people with dementia and their caregivers.
What it entails
A visit from a volunteer often works both ways: the person with dementia receives attention, and the caregiver gets the opportunity to catch their breath. The volunteer offers companionship and a listening ear, and engages in activities together, such as playing a game or going for a walk.
