Would you like to help a child enjoy language and reading more? Do you want to make a difference in a child's life?
As a reading volunteer, you help reduce children's language delays in a playful, relaxed way, thereby increasing their future opportunities.
Humanitas offers you training sessions, theme evenings, and tailored support from a volunteer coordinator.
Tasks and duties
As a reading volunteer, you visit a family's home for an hour a week. You help the child or children of primary school age with their language development through play and introduce them to the joy of reading. You can do this by reading aloud, talking about the story and their own experiences, and playing games.
The parents are present during the reading hour, and you involve them as much as possible.
We are present at the pairing, and you can contact us with any questions. There is an introductory meeting and optional thematic meetings for knowledge and exchange.
Our reading volunteers are active throughout the city. You indicate yourself in which neighborhoods you would like to read and which age group you prefer.
Skills and qualities
- Proficiency in the Dutch language.
- Be available 1 to 2 hours per week.
- Have an affinity with children.
You are available for at least six months, because we want the child to feel that it is worthwhile.
Additional information
Requests for language assistance come in throughout the year, so we are always looking for volunteers!
