Interesting or nice about this vacancy
"It is fantastic to be a sniffing volunteer! You can really teach children something through the interaction with your dog. Working with your own dog makes it the ideal volunteer work for me, and moreover, you contribute to our society. In short, volunteer work that gives satisfaction!" - Ilja Moll
"Even if there were only one child who wasn't bitten by a dog, my years of dedication to the Sophia SnuffelCollege would already have paid off." - Dorette Stöveken
Tasks and duties
Do you have a social, obedient, and child-friendly dog?
And would you enjoy standing in front of a class? Then volunteering for the Sophia SnuffelCollege might be just the thing for you! Together with your dog, you will visit the youngest groups of primary schools to teach children how to interact safely with dogs. In this way, the number of dog bites among children can be limited and fear of dogs can decrease. Moreover, the Sophia SnuffelCollege contributes to greater understanding and respect for dogs and other animals. The Sophia SnuffelCollege is a project of the Queen Sophia Society for the Protection of Animals.
The Sophia Sniffing College consists of three weekly lessons of 30 to 45 minutes. In the first lesson, you introduce the children to a hand puppet. During the second and third lessons, your dog comes into the classroom and the theory is put into practice. How do you tell if a dog is angry or sad? When is it okay to pet a dog, and when is it better to leave him alone? You explain the most important rules for interacting with dogs in a playful way. You also let the children practice petting, brushing, and giving treats. Afterwards, everyone receives a Sniffing Diploma and a workbook with games and information for the parents.
