Tasks and duties
The Repair Café Rivierenbuurt is open every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm and, starting in February, at our new location in the Talmahuis. Everyone is welcome at the Repair Café, where we look together—and see if we can—help visitors repair their clothing and appliances while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. We are getting busier and are looking for a second person to join us for the clothing.
Skills and qualities
- Able to handle the sewing machine and needle and thread, or willing to learn.
- Dealing with guests, assessing and explaining what you are doing, because they stay with you until you are finished.
Additional information
We consist of a team of 8 with rotating attendance. There is currently one person for textiles, and we would like to expand this to two. Sewing machines and supplies are available. As a Repair Café, we operate on a donation basis to be accessible to everyone, and we do so from a sustainability perspective.
Although it can sometimes be quite busy, we work in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
We also invite young people/students etc. who are eager to learn and available for at least six months to apply.

We want to preserve and disseminate repair knowledge, and foster social cohesion by connecting neighbors with very different backgrounds and motivations within the framework of inspiring and accessible gatherings. The RepairCafé is not a free repair workshop, but a neighborhood meeting place focused on repairing together, knowledge transfer, and social contact. Repairs take place *during* the RepairCafé meeting, in the presence of and, where possible, with the cooperation of the owner of the broken item. Therefore, broken items are not dropped off at the Repair Café and picked up later.
