Tasks and duties
We don't call our Conversation Buddies Conversation Buddies for nothing. They are people who enjoy having a chat. They are more than language coaches; they are pleasant conversation partners!
With us, it’s not just about hammering on the d’s and t’s. It’s about having a nice conversation about things that *you* find interesting!
Why are we looking for this? Many of the women at Vanhulley primarily speak their native language at home. That is why we consider it especially important that they can speak Dutch at Vanhulley, and that they do so in a friendly and relaxed manner.
Setup:
The intention is for the Conversation Buddies to support the women with the Dutch language in a way that suits both you and the woman. For example, a newspaper article might serve as the basis for the lesson, or you might pick up a language book. But simply having a nice conversation, for instance about the children's school, culture, music, food, etc., is also possible! So you are more of a 'buddy' than a language coach. At Vanhulley, teaching materials are available with language exercises and booklets on specific themes. A different approach suits every woman; it is truly about tailoring it to the individual. It can therefore be structured according to your own discretion. If this proves difficult, we can of course assist.
Location:
The location is at Vanhulley's studio (Metaallaan 255 in Groningen). Other options include a walk (in the city) or meeting on location. This can be in a public space. Or, possibly in consultation, at the woman's place or at your home.
The duration of your contact:
We schedule one hour of Dutch conversation lessons for all women who feel the need for them. They indicate this themselves. Vanhulley then schedules an initial introductory meeting with you of approximately 45 minutes. Subsequently, we prefer to set a fixed time each week.
Skills and qualities
Particular affinity with:
- The Dutch language!
- Women in a difficult position on the labor market.
- Women with a migration background.
