Interesting or nice about this vacancy

No activity is the same, many encounters, and children who appreciate that you are doing this with them.

The target group is children aged 8 to 18.

Tasks and duties

Time4You offers weekly thematic group meetings for children and young people (8-18 years).

VluchtelingenWerk Nederland is a professional volunteer organization. We advocate for the interests of and support refugees, including children. In the Netherlands, thousands of refugee children and young people grow up in asylum seeker centers and emergency shelters. They are vulnerable and deserve our attention. VluchtelingenWerk has developed the Time4You project especially for them.

Are you enthusiastic?

Do you want to dedicate yourself to children and young people staying at an emergency shelter?

Time4You offers information sessions and weekly group meetings for children and young people in asylum seeker centers and emergency shelters. During the meetings, we discuss themes, provide information, give children and young people the opportunity to ask questions or share their stories, and organize fun activities. Time4You focuses on the empowerment of children and young people living in asylum seeker centers and emergency shelters and advocates for their interests.

At every Time4You session, we engage in relaxed and playful conversation with the group based on a theme. Time4You sessions are organized for children aged 8 to 12 and for young people aged 13 to 18. Time4You is facilitated by an enthusiastic team of 2 to 4 volunteers per group. The teams are supervised by the team leader from VluchtelingenWerk.

What are you going to do? Prepare, inform, and identify.

As a Time4You facilitator, you contribute to shaping the content of the thematic meetings. You prepare the weekly meetings and facilitate them together with your team. These take place on a fixed day of the week. Occasionally, you also facilitate an information session. In total, you should expect to be available for approximately 4 hours per week. As a facilitator, you are also responsible for maintaining the weekly attendance lists, in collaboration with your team.

Finally, you have a signaling role to recognize 'concerning' behavior and discuss it with your team leader.

When?

The times of day when the meetings take place are determined in consultation and depend on the availability at the emergency shelter locations. In Groningen, we are primarily active on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. You will be on location for the entire afternoon to prepare for the meeting and invite the children. The actual meeting with the children will be at the end of the afternoon.

We offer you:

A stimulating and challenging work environment with room for your own development. Plenty of opportunities to learn more about other cultures. A pleasant team where everyone supports each other to help refugees move forward together. All volunteers work under the guidance of a professional.

VluchtelingenWerk offers an induction program including the mandatory basic course, workshops, and training; furthermore, you will receive reimbursement for travel and expenses. We also require all our employees to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.
