Three themed evenings are being organized in which we use your previously acquired knowledge of sign language to establish even better contact with the deaf and/or hard-of-hearing visitors or guests of the organization where you work.
This workshop is only open to participants who have completed the “Hospitality Communication” or “NMG AB1” course.
This interactive workshop focuses on the daily activities people engage in or the activities your organization organizes for its guests. Attention is also paid to “the weather” in this workshop, and we learn gestures related to “being sick.” This allows you, in your role as hostess/host, to easily strike up a conversation about the weather or what someone has done that day (e.g., working, studying, grocery shopping). You can also talk about organized activities and initiate a conversation about how someone is feeling.
We refresh your knowledge and take it a step further. This makes it increasingly easy to communicate with sign language within organizations that want to be there for everyone or want to develop a more inclusive approach.
The goal? To make you even more confident in using gestures! So that you can engage in conversation with people who use sign language with pleasure and confidence – whether it is a brief encounter or a longer discussion. And, of course: to radiate the hospitality befitting the organization where you work.
If you would like to cover specific gestures related to the organization where you work and relevant to these topics, you can send a message via your account on the website three weeks before the start date.
The workshop is led by Edith Jansen, a certified communication trainer trained by the Dutch Sign Language Centre. For years, Edith has been passionately providing communication training to people with hearing impairments and their families.
For Ontwikkellink, she also develops functional courses and inspiring workshops for volunteers who, in their role as hosts, come into contact with people who communicate in sign language. With her enthusiasm and experience, Edith knows how to take every participant into the world of sign language.
