At De Blije Bodem, we offer a volunteer position with broad possibilities: as a young project, we are still fully in the development phase of setting up the regenerative self-harvest garden. Just a fifteen-minute bike ride from the center of Groningen, we are attempting to transform a severely damaged piece of land into a green oasis that everyone can come and enjoy. We grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers, but are also creating seating areas and other structures. As a volunteer, this allows you to contribute to both the physical construction of the garden and the care of the plants alongside the gardener. We appreciate it if you have your own idea to set up or create something in the garden. One of our goals is to establish an educational garden; therefore, there is always something to learn here. Not only from us, but we also love to learn from you!
The garden is designed as a public, regenerative self-harvest garden. In short, regenerative means that we want to invite a piece of land with little (soil) life to bloom again, thereby creating a green oasis in the city. The public and self-harvest aspects of our garden ensure that, during your work, in addition to contact with our team, you also come into contact with the broad group of participants and visitors to the garden.
Tasks and duties
We are looking for a carpenter who enjoys helping us build structures. Think, for example, of compost bins, nice seating areas, wood storage, growing tables, and much more.
Skills and qualities
The ability to independently design and execute safe and sturdy structures. What is needed is determined in consultation, including the design/construction plan if necessary. We work with reusable materials as much as possible. If you enjoy sharing your knowledge and skills, building is also possible in collaboration with other volunteers or by organizing a workshop.

About Stichting De Blije Bodem
Stichting De Blije Bodem is een regeneratieve zelfoogsttuin in Groningen. Een voedseltuin van 4500m2 voor omwonenden met onbespoten verse groente, kruiden en bloemen. Wij vinden dat lokaal en zo gezond mogelijke voeding beschikbaar moet zijn voor iedereen. Onze tuinder teelt alle groente, onze deelnemers oogsten vervolgens zelf waar ze behoefte aan hebben. We werken met een solidair betalingssysteem; iedereen kan met elk budget verse groente oogsten. We willen tot 200 mensen van gezonde voeding gaan voorzien. We besteden veel aandacht in het ondersteunen en maximaliseren van de biodiversiteit; we maken van een uitgeput stuk grond een groene oase in de stad. De tuin is volledig openbaar, we iedereen mag komen genieten van deze prachtige plek. Educatie is een belangrijk onderdeel; we delen graag kennis en hopen nieuwe generaties te inspireren, van groenteteelt tot het herstellen van complete ecosystemen en het weer in verbinding komen met jezelf, de natuur en anderen.
