Tuinindestad is a piece of urban nature where the wind blows pleasantly through your hair. It is located behind Vinkhuizen in the Westpark. That seems far, but it is only a 15-minute bike ride from the Martinitoren.
People meet each other, outside in the garden or inside the living room. They drink a cup of coffee, ask a question, or buy a plant. Children play on the nature playground or pet the rabbits. Sometimes there is a course or workshop.
Together we make Tuinindestad. A pleasant working atmosphere and collegiality are important. Tuinindestad is not a rigid organization. Everyone is equal and comes and goes at their own time. If you find that difficult, you can get a one-on-one buddy who works your way up with you.
There is always plenty to do and experience, but we are especially open to your ideas (not required, but welcome).
Tasks and duties
Tuinindestad has its own, and perhaps unique, way of working. At Tuinindestad, people develop themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. Background, education, and the physical and/or mental condition of the individual participant do not matter. Anyone with a degree of independence can participate in the way that best suits their situation. It is a meeting place where everyone can be themselves.
All common tasks in the garden and the greenhouse, such as;
- Maintenance of mother beds.
- Raising and transplanting.
- Sweeping paths.
- Weeding and pruning.
- Watering.
- Turning compost.
- Taking care of the rabbits and the chickens.
Skills and qualities
- We are looking for someone who chooses to work with us.
- Can work together.
- Has basic knowledge of gardening or wants to develop it.
- Resistant to sun, rain, weather, and wind.
- Has respect for people and nature.
- Can work independently, which does not mean you have to do it alone.
- People who find it (too) daunting to come alone can get a buddy on a one-on-one basis.
Additional information
We grow clean plants. We do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or rooting powder. We grow our new plants from organic seeds using organic soil. Additionally, we are strong advocates of reusing materials.

Samen zorgen we voor het beheer, onderhoud en de doorontwikkeling van dit kleine stukje stadsnatuur, middenin het Westpark (achter Vinkhuizen). Er groeit van alles, niks hoeft, alles mag. Wij hopen altijd op dat ene idee, dat we zelf nog niet bedacht hadden.
