Interesting or nice about this vacancy
Would you like to help your neighbors or fellow villagers in Haren and the surrounding area protect themselves against online crime as a volunteer? Then sign up now as a Neighborhood Ambassador for Digital Safety!
Digital security:
Unfortunately, online crime has been on the rise for years, with victims regularly losing substantial amounts of money. For instance, one in five people aged 55+ has been a victim of online fraud at some point. The impact of online crime is significant, yet victims often feel ashamed and do not always report or file a police report for the scam. We aim to break this cycle through effective education and discussions about digital safety.
Do you want to contribute to the digital resilience of your neighborhood or village?
The municipality and WIJ Groningen are looking for volunteers who want to commit to making their neighborhood or village digitally safer. Initially, we are looking for people who want to be active in Haren and the surrounding area.
Tasks and duties
As a Neighborhood Ambassador for Digital Safety, you raise awareness of online crime in your neighborhood or village, among other things by giving information sessions. In addition to these sessions, there is room to decide how this knowledge is shared (local newspaper, meetings, etc.). You teach residents how to recognize online crime and provide practical advice to prevent becoming a victim.
You inform residents about new forms of online crime. If things do go wrong, you refer people to the appropriate organizations. Your responsibilities include, among other things:
- Providing information sessions on current forms of online crime, collaborating with partners such as the Forum, Seniorweb, and Humanitas.
- Maintain contact and share knowledge with other neighborhood ambassadors for Digital Safety
- Keeping up with current developments with the help of the municipality and the police
- Providing practical advice to prevent victimization by online crimes
Skills and qualities
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer who enjoys making neighbors or fellow villagers more digitally resilient.
You have:
- Good communication skills
- Affinity with digital security or interest in learning more about it
- Basic knowledge of digital devices such as computers and smartphones
- Available for at least 4-10 hours per month (by arrangement)
- Motivation to help residents become more resilient against online crime
Additional information
As a Neighborhood Ambassador for Digital Safety, you will have an educational and meaningful volunteer role with great social urgency. You will receive:
- A training course to become a Neighborhood Digital Safety Ambassador based on your profile. You will learn about all current forms of online crime and the key organizations for residents.
- A valuable role within your own neighborhood or village
- Information material to use for, for example, information sessions
- A network of other neighborhood ambassadors and involved social organizations with whom knowledge and experiences can be shared.
- Current information from the police and municipality regarding online crime
