The Work and Income Client Council represents the interests of residents of the municipality of Groningen who are subject to the Participation Act or have an income of up to 120% of the social assistance standard.

As a member of the Work and Income Client Council, one can contribute ideas or participate in discussions by providing advice on proposed municipal policy from the perspective of the target group. In this way, one can influence policy decisions.

The scope of work covers topics in the areas of work, participation, income, poverty policy, minimum income policy, and debt assistance. The requests for advice (from the Municipality of Groningen) are diverse, which is extremely interesting. As a result, the Work and Income Client Council not only provides advice but also acquires knowledge.

Tasks and duties

As a member of the Work and Income Client Council, one will read and assess policy documents at a higher professional education (HBO) level of thinking. To formulate advice, which is a primary task of the Work and Income Client Council, one will take into consideration personal experience, stories from residents of the target group, and conclusions from research reports.

Members of the Work and Income Client Council also regularly participate in conferences and workshops related to themes on which the Work and Income Client Council provides advice, and they engage in dialogue with, among others, aldermen, the Ombudsman, and the municipal council.

  • Reading and evaluating policy documents.
  • Formulating advice based on personal experience, stories from residents, and conclusions from research reports.
  • Regularly participate in conferences/workshops related to themes on which the Work and Income Client Council provides advice, and engage in dialogue with, among others, aldermen, the Ombudsman, and the municipal council.

Skills and qualities

  • Residing in the municipality of Groningen.
  • Receives social assistance benefits.
  • Positive basic attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possessing the energy to delve into the subject matter.
  • The ability to think in a solution-oriented way.
  • Be skilled in communication.
  • Being computer literate.
  • Knowledge of the municipal organization is an advantage.

Additional information
