Energiebank Groningen helps residents struggling to pay their energy bills, free of charge and with a warm heart. Due to rising energy poverty in the Netherlands, our help is needed more than ever. You help households get a grip on their energy bills and create a healthier and more comfortable home.
Thanks to the social and independent nature of our approach, we reach precisely those people who often remain out of sight of municipalities and agencies.
Tasks and duties
As a volunteer social energy coach at Stichting Energiebank Groningen, you are there for a household that has asked for our help because they are struggling to pay their energy bill. You help residents get a grip on their energy consumption in a way that suits their situation.
You visit people at home, listen to their story, and look together at what is possible to make the house more comfortable and lower the energy bill. Sometimes this involves small adjustments or practical tips, sometimes scheduling an appointment with our FIXbrigade or pointing them to other help in the neighborhood.
When materials such as draft strips or radiator foil are needed, the coaches enlist the free help of the FIXbrigade Groningen – a professional handyman team that takes care of the expert installation.
Your tasks include, among others:
- Visiting households on a tight budget (usually 3–5 home visits per household).
- Gaining insight into energy consumption together and finding ways to reduce costs.
- Providing support in making small changes to the home or habits, in a way that feels feasible for the resident.
- Coordinating with FIXbrigade Groningen, so that materials are applied or technical assistance is deployed where necessary.
- Schedule and carry out appointments with residents assigned to you.
- Maintain regular contact with the coordinator of Energiebank Groningen regarding progress, experiences, and results.
Skills and qualities
Who are we looking for?
- You listen well, pay attention to others, and enjoy helping people.
- You find it important that everyone can live in a warm and peaceful environment, including people who are struggling financially.
- You can free up at least 2 hours per week, at times that suit you.
- Do you speak more than one language? That is a tremendous strength. Many residents feel extra safe and understood when someone speaks their language.
- You have a command of the Dutch language at at least B1 level.
